I got an anti-wrinkle treatment, and I’m 23. Let’s talk a little more about it!
To preface this, I never used to care about my skin much. I never had any problematic experiences in my early years. I first understood the importance of skincare and maintenance when I landed my first retail job at Mecca Cosmetica. I received a lot of training in skin care before I started, and I realized that although I’ve never had any problems with my skin, it is so important to take preventative measures to keep your skin youthful and healthy. As well as this, my mum also started working in a Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, and would come home every week with a new treatment she tried, to which I saw with my own eyes the amazing results.
What is an Antiwrinkle treatment? The most recognizable Anti-wrinkle treatment is called Botox. ‘Botox’ is actually a brand name, with other common brand names being Dysport and Xeomin. The name Botox comes from the type of neurotoxin injected, Botulinum Toxin Type A. Essentially, when injected, the ‘Botox’ blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles, meaning the injected muscle can’t contract. When we are thinking about an anti-wrinkle injectable treatment, it is important to note that ‘Botox’ (or Dysport, Xeomin, etc) can only treat dynamic wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles appear on our face where the skin naturally folds during facial expressions. With these repetitive movements, as our skins elasticity diminishes and becomes thinner, these wrinkles become more apparent. Personally, the horizontal lines on my forehead were the ones where I noticed the most movement.
But why did I decide to get Botox? Can’t I just sort the wrinkles out later in life when my skin is less youthful? Along with the research I did around skin care and the right products to be using, I would often come across articles about ‘Botox’ and why it’s such a great anti-ageing cosmetic procedure. I had seen the results with my mum, so I knew how effective it was. Eventually, I got up the courage to have a consultation with Dr Sadeghi to talk about my concerns.
Dr Sadeghi agreed that it would be beneficial to treat my horizontal forehead lines. I also had my frown lines treated, as well as a ‘brow lift’ technique. This was decided during the consultation, as Dr Sadeghi observed my expression and identified the most prevalent dynamic wrinkles. The ‘brow lift’ was performed as one of my eyebrows is naturally more lifted than the other, so I was treated in this area to assist with symmetry.
I am 2 weeks post treatment, and WOW can I say it’s made a difference. The wrinkles have disappeared, and my skin feels fresh and tight. I have never been happier with the symmetry of my brows!
So, what is the intended outcome for preventative anti-wrinkle injections? Getting this treatment done in your 20’s/30’s can actually reverse mild lines or prevent them from developing at all. The ideal scenario from getting preventative anti-wrinkle injections means that you will come back less and less over time, with less need to go in and fix pesky wrinkles 20 years down the track, as well as helping eliminate static wrinkles.
If you’ve already noticed, or start to notice lines and wrinkles in your 20’s and 30’s, thinking your anti-wrinkle options isn’t out of the question!
